Overview

During this course, you will consider bird legislation and what this means to you, how to identify different bird populations and how to proof and control. Once you have paid for this course, you will be given access to online learning for two weeks before the 1-day course.

You will begin with access to our online learning for 2 weeks.

This will include an overview of:

  • Bird legislation
  • Bird identification, biology and behaviour
  • Bird management and control
  • Proofing techniques
  • Insects and pathogens.

After completing your online learning, you will need to attend your course.

Virtual training enables you to take the training remotely, still retaining contact with the tutor and other candidates. The classroom training will require you to travel to a pre-determined venue.

In both cases, the training will cover:

  • Reasons for bird management
  • How to complete bird surveys (including bird pressure)
  • How to spot sales opportunities
  • The current bird law and what it means for you
  • Bird biology, bird behaviour and diseases recap
  • Health & Safety (including guano removal)
  • Scaring techniques (including falconry, lasers, distress calls and Eagle Eye
  • Control techniques (including trapping, air rifles plus despatch techniques
  • Proofing techniques (including netting, bird wire, spikes, bird gel, electric systems and solar panel roofing.

Upon completion of the training, and when you are ready, you will then be provided with access to your Certificate in Bird Management examination. This is an online examination which assesses your skills and knowledge.  The assessment is a 30 minute, multiple-choice and scenario-based examination.

If you are successful in the BPCA Certificate in Bird Management exam, you will receive the BPCA Certificate in Bird Management qualification with a certificate.

While there isn't a pre-course entry requirement for this programme, you may find it useful to study the Foundation Certificate in Pest Management. This BPCA course is open to all.
