About the job

As the British Pest Control Association’s Technical and Compliance Manager, you’ll be instrumental in driving the expansion of a wide range of technical services and play a key role in maintaining BPCA as the leading association for the pest control industry, acting as a main point of contact where appropriate.

You’ll play a crucial role in providing technical support to BPCA’s 580+ Servicing company members and drive membership engagement through regular interactions, both physically and digitally.

You’ll also be responsible for compliance, ensuring members adhere to the strict criteria BPCA sets and manage our Alternate Dispute Resolution Service for members.

The role sits within our Membership and Technical team, which is a small, dynamic team. You’ll be involved with Committees and Special Interest Groups made up of our members and key stakeholders.

There will be significant development opportunities working in an award-winning trade association with seasoned professionals both within BPCA and the wider industry.

The person

We need a bright, focused individual, dedicated to building lasting relationships with their colleagues and members.

Above all, you’ll be technically solid and an excellent communicator. This is an outward-facing role with clear deliverables and requires a person who is willing to both self-motivate, self-organise and drive quality standards.

Proven technical support and/or pest control experience in a variety of settings, ideally at both small and large companies, and experience of managing a wide range of commercial and domestic customers will be an advantage.

Principal function

The post holder will be instrumental in driving the expansion of a wide range of technical services and play a key role in maintaining BPCA as the leading association for the pest control industry, acting as a main point of contact where appropriate.

In partnership with the Head of Membership and Technical, they will develop and then implement both short- and long-term strategies for the Association to the benefit of members and industry.

 Key responsibilities                  

  • To provide technical leadership, advice and support to BPCA and its members and disseminate best practice in a timely and efficient manner, adding value and innovation wherever possible.
  • Measure BPCA members against established membership and assessment criteria (including BPCA criteria and external criteria), feeding back information in a timely and clear manner.
  • Deliver technical support to the industry, including assistance in the development of new and revision of existing programmes, and development of CPD for the sector.
  • Represent BPCA to the media, on relevant external committees, and attend meetings as BPCA lead representative.
  • Maintain appropriate codes of practice and commission new ones as required, working with third parties where necessary.
  • Establish and develop long-term relationships with BPCA members to identify new opportunities and generate further benefits, services and synergies.
  • Carry out or commission agreed research to improve knowledge of the sector, make recommendations as to future action, and implement as required.
  • Contribute to the overall development of the Association, working with the staff team and members to generate ideas for new benefits and services and ways to improve existing ones in order for us to maintain and grow our position as the leading association in the sector.
  • Provide support to the Association’s relevant standing committees and internal and external working groups.
  • Responsibility for BPCA complaints and facilitating officer for the Alternative Dispute Resolutions (ADR) scheme. BPCA is a Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) approved alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post.

Other requirements

  • Travel to BPCA offices in Derby on a regular and frequent basis
  • Travel to BPCA member offices/sites and partner organisations as required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the UK frequently and some international travel required. Some overnight stays (approximately four per month) and out of hours working.
  • Carrying out presentations to students, members, and key opinion formers

 Personal specification

 Essential qualifications

  • Level 2 Award in Pest Management (or equivalent)

Essential other

  • An excellent written and verbal communicator, with the ability to present to diverse audiences
  • Pest control industry experience
  • Understanding of chemical regulation / industry-related regulations
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and implementation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethical conduct, and maintaining confidentiality
  • Proficiency in using a CRM system and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Driving Licence

Desirable

  • RSPH Level 3 Award in Pest Management
  • BPCA Certificated Advanced Technician (CAT) in Pest Management
  • BPCA Certificated Field Biologist Accreditation
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organisation

A basic salary from £40k pa upwards depending upon experience.
