Traps have been used effectively within pest control for hundreds of years, and they have an important role to play in today's delivery of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

Overview

This course will look at the practical aspects of using and placing traps and baits and help build confidence to ensure compliance when using these tools. This programme is suitable for anyone interested in learning how to use a trap and bait safely.

During the Practical Vertebrate Control programme, you will learn:

1. Species involved, their behaviour and identification - moles, rabbits, rodents, squirrels, foxes and mink
2. Legislation relating to trap and bait use
3. Health and safety
4. Types of traps and baits available
5. The trapping and bait process
6. Trap maintenance
7. Documentation
8. Communication

By the end of the course you will be able to:

1. Recognise different traps and baits and understand their use
2. Set traps and place baits safely
3. Explain where and how traps and baits can be legally used

Please note traps can cause injury if not used safely.

Upon completion of this programme, you will receive a BPCA certificate of completion.
