Girl, 11, dies in incident reportedly linked to "pest control products"

Unidentified "pest control products" are believed to have caused the death of an 11-year-old girl in a building in east London.

The child, along with three other people, was found unresponsive at an address on Sutton Street in Shadwell on Saturday, the Met Police said.

She was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

The condition of the other people involved is not yet known.

London Fire Brigade carried out checks in the building and found "a quantity of chemicals". An investigation is ongoing but it is not being treated as a criminal investigation at this time.

Ian Andrew, BPCA Chief Exec, commented:

“We are very sorry to hear about the tragic event in East London and our thoughts are with the girl's family.

“We’re waiting to hear more about the circumstances and are unable to comment on the specific situation at this time.

“Chemical regulation is handled by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and authorised pest control products have strict conditions for use.

“If you’re concerned about any pest control products, contact your local professional pest management company. A list of our members is available on our website”.
