BPCA calls for parking charges to be scrapped amidst Covid-19 pandemic

BPCA has written to all 33 local authorities in London, asking for parking charges to be scrapped during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Scrap parking charges says BPCA

The open letter reads:

RE: Parking Enforcement in London

FAO: To all Chief Executives of London Borough Councils

Dear Chief Executive

We write on behalf of our members to challenge the enforcement of parking charges in your district.

BPCA represents over 700 member companies with a professional interest in pest management.

As the volume of traffic has significantly reduced in London, is it really necessary to continue enforcing parking charges?

Our members are carrying out essential pest management services in your area keeping hospitals, supermarkets and food manufacturing premises safe from pests.

They are choosing to drive to undertake this work rather than travelling on the tube or buses for social distancing reasons.

As such they are having to pay for parking and avoid being fined.

I would have thought that at this time, a certain leniency could be considered, as it is mainly key workers who are still travelling by car and having to park to carry out essential services.

Your consideration of this matter is very much appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Andrew
Chief Executive Officer
British Pest Control Association
