Pest advice for controlling Ticks

Closely related to the mites, but much larger and reliant on vertebrate blood. They are occasionally brought into the house on domestic animals and can be picked up by humans after walking through long grass in an infested area. Ticks are implicated in the transmission of Lyme disease, and medical advice should be sought if a rash appears at the site of a bite. Remove them with a twist to avoid leaving the mouthparts in the skin.

Tick-1How do I prevent a Ticks?

Preventing ticks coming in your home is difficult. However, there are some things you can do to reduce your chances of getting them:

  • Pet maintenance - Applying veterinary approved Tick products to your pet on a regular basis.
  • Good Housekeeping - Clean your entire home as thoroughly as possible, from top to bottom. Clean out shelves, dust forgotten corners and sweep, mop, and vacuum all floors.
  • Vacuum - All over the house as often as possible. Frequently vacuum the areas your pet is around, especially carpeted areas in and any furniture that is frequented by your pet.
  • Washing - Wash your clothes and pet's bedding, blanket and other washable items in the hottest water possible.

How to get rid of Ticks

For a Tick infestation, we suggest applying the prevention techniques listed above thoroughly will go a long way to solving the problem.

Tick-2However if not, then we strongly recommend you contact a professional pest control company, preferably a member of the BPCA. A trained professional will have the technical knowledge and access to a range of professional use insecticides which are not available to the public.

Before an insecticide treatment, clear as much floor space as possible. To ensure that treatment is as thorough as possible. Vacuuming all areas helps to remove any debris, eggs, larvae and adult Ticks.
