How to write a winning British Pest Management Award entry

Nominations are coming in thick and fast for the second ever British Pest Management Awards. We wanted to make sure that anyone thinking about entering an award had the guidance they need to confidently enter themselves or a colleague.

The British Pest Management Award nominations close on 1 November, so you still have a little time to get a really impressive entry in.

Remember, if you’re doing something really special, you deserved to be recognised by your community for the work you do.

As are about celebrating excellence in pest management.

Choose the right award (or awards) for you

Remember to read the criteria

There are more categories for the BPMAs this year – and each of them is free to enter.

Take a moment to think about what your company or colleagues do really well. Then take a look at all the awards and pick a couple that apply to you the most.

There’s no maximum amount of award nominations that you can enter, however, if it’s your first time submitting an award entry, we recommend focusing on two nominations, max.

If you’re proud of your company, and you explain why, then there’s a good chance the judging panel will pick this up in your entry. .

Read what the judging panel is looking for

The judges have been given guidance on each of the award up for grabs. You can read their criteria and guidance here.

Awards criteria and guidance

Each award tells you precisely what your nomination should include.

For example, Company of the year, Small company of the year, Sole trader of the year or Local authority of the year nominations should include:

  • A description of a professional, reliable, and technically competent company
  • Your company’s contribution to the pest management community, or your local community
  • Development of your staff, or of your business commercially
  • Exceptional achievements and challenges overcome
  • Support and care for your employees, clients, the general public, or the environment.

Literally, give examples based on the bulletin points, and you’ll be in with a good chance of being at least shortlisted!

Make your claim… then back it up

Fortune favours the bold

If you claim your company has the happiest staff – prove it!

The judges love a bold claim, but it needs to be backed up. There’s space to upload evidence for all your applications.

Send us photographs, get testimonials, make a graph – support your entry with the proof.

Write with passion and integrity

Success begins at the edge of your comfort zone.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never entered an award before – the BPMAs are for everyone with a passion for protecting public health.

We know that there are loads of hugely passionate people in our sector. Let that come across in your award nomination.

Be honest about your nomination and be proud to shout about why you think an individual or company deserves an award for their industry.

Give it a go

You cant win if you don't even start

Last year, many of our winners said they didn’t believe they were going to be shortlisted – never mind win!

Stick your head up above the parapet and show the world why your company or colleague is the best in the UK pest management industry.

Even if you just give yourself 30 minutes today to put in one good nomination, you’re committing to celebrating your own achievements. You might just surprise yourself.
