BASF product pre-launch unveils innovative fly control solution

PRODUCTS

Pest control manufacturer and BPCA member BASF held a packed product pre-launch event last week, to showcase its latest innovation in fly management.

Seclira® Fly Bait is a ready-to-use pressurised fly bait designed to deliver fast, discreet, and effective fly control.

And a select group of pest control professionals got the chance to hear about it first, at an exclusive pre-launch event held at Adventure Sports Warwick.

BPCA were lucky enough to be invited along, and it was an engaging and enjoyable day.

Showcase and shooting

Laurence Barnard, UK & Ireland Business Manager for Professional & Speciality Solutions at BASF, kicked the day off by telling everyone why we were there: to learn about BASF’s new fly control product, Seclira® Fly Bait.

He handed over to Dr Matthew Davies, Head of Technical at Killgerm, who will be the UK distributor for Seclira® Fly Bait. He gave the room a useful presentation on fly biology and behaviours, active ingredients and insecticide resistance.

Laurence then took back the reins to talk to the group more about the new product, starting with an apology that he would be limited in what could be discussed due to the product still pending registration approval.

Nevertheless, the group seemed excited by what he had to say. Powered by active ingredient Dinotefuran combined with a highly attractive bait matrix, Seclira® is effective against both house flies (Musca domestica) and stable flies (Stomoxys calcitrans).

Laurence suggested that they could explore adding further species of fly added to the label in the future, such as cluster flies.

According to BASF, it delivers rapid knockdown while remaining virtually imperceptible to the public.

The formulation is non-repellent, odourless, and colourless, making it particularly suitable for restaurants, bars, hotels, warehouses, and other high-hygiene or public-facing environments.

Seclira provides visible knockdown within minutes and offers residual control for up to six weeks, covering the most critical periods of the fly season.

Developed through years of research, market consultation, and extensive field trials, Seclira gives pest controllers a precise and efficient method of tackling nuisance fly infestations.

After the presentations, attendees broke off into groups for some clay pigeon shooting - honourable mention goes to Richard Elkington of Fen Farm Pest Control who came top of the group, hitting nearly all his targets.

Laurence commented:

“Fly infestations aren’t just a nuisance – they’re a threat to hygiene, productivity, and reputation, particularly in hospitality and food-handling environments.

“Pest controllers need solutions that work quickly, reliably, and discreetly. Seclira has been designed with these real-world challenges in mind, offering fast control without compromising professionalism or appearance.

He continued, “We wanted to bring some pest professionals together for the launch of Seclira and I was really pleased with the reception. There’s been a lack of new products on the market for the industry in the last few years, so we’re proud to break that dry spell with a great new tool for professionals to add to their arsenal.”

PestEx attendees can learn more about Seclira by visiting BASF on Stand 84 or attending an informative presentation, ‘Seclira: Revolutionising Fly Control’, delivered by BASF’s Technical Manager Jeferson de Andrade on day one of the event.

Alongside Seclira, BASF will feature its popular rodenticide products, including the award-winning cholecalciferol bait, Selontra.

Visitors are invited to the stand to explore BASF’s full product portfolio, speak with the technical team, and network with leaders in pest control manufacturing.

Laurence added: “We’re thrilled to be returning to PestEx. With the show already sold out, it’s set to be a full-on, exciting event. We look forward to connecting with pest controllers and businesses and learning more about the trends shaping the pest control sector this year.”

*Please note: Seclira® Fly Bait is not currently authorised in the UK, and is pending registration approval. No supply of this product will be available prior to authorisation.
