Jo will outline how bats use buildings, why they are so important in a bats lifecycle and how pest control work may impact bats, including their legal protection. Becky will outline what to do when considering carrying out works where bats are present, including the latest best practice guidance and training course for pest controllers that BCT has developed with the BPCA.

Jo is the Built Environment Manager and has been with the Bat Conservation Trust since 2015. Prior to this she worked in ecological consultancy specialising in bats; providing survey and mitigation advice covering a range of development projects. However also has extensive experience in the conservation and scientific research sectors, including working in Australia for 18 months using her bat survey skills to help run the micro-bats trapping and radio-tracking project in the botanic gardens with volunteers from Earthwatch. Jo is a full member of CIEEM. a member of the London Bat Group and a Volunteer Bat Roost Visitor on behalf of Natural England.
Becky is one of BCT’s Helpline Managers, she has a degree in Biology from the University of Southampton and has always been passionate about wildlife conservation. She fell in love with bats whilst carrying out her dissertation on the effects of LED lighting on bat foraging behaviour. Becky has been working at The Bat Conservation Trust for over 5 years, starting out on the National Bat Monitoring Programme and recently moving to the Bat Helpline Team as Helpline Manager. She is a trainee Volunteer Bat Roost Visitor and Chair of London Bat Group
