Pest Control Technician - Durham County Council

Description

We’re looking for a motivated and community‑focused person who wants to help people and businesses who are experiencing pest problems. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high‑quality pest management services that help keep County Durham clean, safe, and attractive.

You’ll work with residents, businesses, community groups, and a wide range of Council teams including Neighbourhood Wardens, Environmental Health & Consumer Protection, and Civic Pride. Your work will make a visible and meaningful difference to local communities.

In this frontline role, you will deliver safe and effective pest treatments across domestic, commercial, agricultural, and recreational settings. You’ll need to operate in line with relevant legislation, health and safety standards, and environmental protection requirements. A big part of your role will also be advising residents, landlords and businesses on pest prevention practices.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualifications – 5 GCSEs including English or a relevant equivalent qualification (e.g., RSPH Level 2 in Pest Control)
  • Training – Experience of identifying pest infestations and the underlying cause of them, and of using insecticides and rodenticides to treat infestations
  • Other – A full driving licence (you’ll need to pass an in-house driving assessment before appointment).

Interviews will be held in the week commencing 16th March 2026.
