BPCA issues professional guidance for glue board users in England, ahead of the implementation of the licensing scheme

MEMBER GUIDANCE

To help members navigate glue board licences in England, BPCA has developed practical guidance that covers all aspects of the new scheme.

The document provides detailed information on:

  • The types of licences
  • How to apply for a licence
  • How to deal with clients unlawfully using glue boards.

The Glue Traps (Offences) Act 2022 introduces significant changes, restricting the use of glue traps and making their use permissible only under strict licensing conditions.

This framework aims to ensure that glue traps are utilised only in exceptional circumstances where alternative rodent control methods are ineffective or impractical.

Dee Ward-Thompson, BPCA Head of Technical, said:

“We’re acutely aware of the challenges that pest professionals are facing ahead of the implementation of the new glue trap licensing regime.

“With the recent changes announced by Defra, which will take effect from 31 July 2024, it's crucial for all pest professionals to understand the new regulations and how they will impact daily operations.

“While the new rules currently apply only to England, it is worth a read from professionals in other regions to stay informed and prepared for changes that could come their way in the future”.

The new guidance document is available for BPCA members to download in the Member Library.

Dee continued:

“BPCA is committed to supporting members through this transition so they can continue protecting public health effectively and legally.

“While the changes are going to be tricky to navigate and we’re all trying to make the best out of the scheme.

“Together I hope we can ensure a smooth implementation of these new rules and uphold the highest standards of pest control practices”.
