VIDEO: Building the ultimate rat-proof gamebird feeder

Mike Swan from Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust has produced a video that explains how his feeder design feeds birds while keeping the rats away.

He hopes that the video will inspire others to think about rodenticide stewardship, in particular, using pesticides as a very last resort.

GWCT Head of Education Mike Swan said:

“I think that the method described is particularly appropriate as we come to the end of the shooting season when good practice dictates that keepers should carry on feeding their birds to get them through the hungry gap.

“At the same time, with game numbers at their lowest in the yearly cycle, we are trying to feed relatively small numbers of widely distributed gamebirds, so the potential percentage waste to rats is at its highest.”
