Product withdrawal: BASF announces phaseout of insecticide products

PRESS RELEASE

Pest control solutions manufacturer, BASF, has announced that its popular insecticide products, Goliath® Gel and Formidor®, will be withdrawn, with the last sales in March 2024 and last use on 24 September 2024.

The phaseout comes as a result of a European-wide withdrawal of the active substance fipronil under the European Biocidal Products Regulation (Reg. EU 528/2012).

All biocidal products containing fipronil in Europe will be affected following this decision. This affects BASF products Goliath Gel, used for cockroach control, and Formidor, used for ant control. These will not be available to purchase on the UK market after March 2024.

Laurence Barnard, Country Business Manager for BASF’s Professional & Specialty Solutions, commented: “We are proud to have supported the pest control industry for more than 20 years by providing these popular fipronil-based products, but unfortunately, we won’t be continuing with them moving forward.

“Looking to the future, pest professionals across the UK should rest assured that BASF is committed to providing the best-performing solutions to help them gain control of infestations quickly and effectively. We have listened to customers and are working on alternative products to replace these much-loved brands.”

The last sale date of Goliath Gel and Formidor will be 28 March 2024 and the last use is 24 September 2024.
