Dr James was most recently the chief executive of the Institute of Leadership & Management, a specialist membership body that represents more than 30,000 leaders, managers, coaches and mentors.

He has also served as group chief executive for the Mineral Products Qualification Council and Institute of Quarrying, assistant chief executive for the British Association of Social Workers and regional director for the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Dr James said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the CIEH with its long history and proud reputation. During the pandemic the importance and relevance of environmental health has been recognised and the profile of the profession has never been higher.

“I am acutely aware of the passion of CIEH members, the diversity of their technical skills and their desire to be well represented.

"I am very much looking forward to engaging with members as I work with the CIEH board and staff team to future-proof the CIEH and improve its offering to existing members and EH professionals coming through the ranks.”
