BPCA launches new online course for pest identification

BPCA is delivering more specialist pest control training via its new virtual classroom. Principles of Pest Identification will premiere live on the 18 June 2020 between 10am and 4pm.

Principles of Pest Identification trianing course by BPCA

Principles of Pest Identification joins Understanding Genetic Resistance in Pests as BPCA’s second online classroom training course. It will be offered at a special introductory discount rate and delivered by Dr Mike Ayres of Precision Pest Management Solutions.

With Covid-19 putting an end to in-person training programmes for the time being, BPCA’s online classroom helps pest professionals learn and partake in meaningful CPD without leaving your home.

Unlike webinars, virtual classrooms mix a live speaker with interactions from learning on a far smaller scale. Strictly limited to 15 learners, you'll be able to ask questions, take polls and talk to other learners.

Principles of Pest Identification

This one-day course has been developed to deliver practical identification techniques relevant to the practising pest controller and will include sessions on:

  • Rodent and insect pests we find or are found for us
  • Rodents: Know their behaviour, know what to look for (droppings, tracks, damage, fur) and where
  • Insects: Basic insect structure and biology, what makes it look like that
  • What you would normally face when a client presents you with a ‘sample’: the realities of identification!
  • The importance of context
  • The use of identification guides and binomial key
  • Differential identifications (eg T confusum vs T castaneum, or O. surinamensis v O. mercator) but does it matter?
  • How to generate and keep a reference collection.

Dates:

  • 18 June 2020

Introductory price:

  • £95 members, £115 non-members (+VAT)
