This programme follows on from the introduction training Conflict Bees in Urban Dwellings. The "trap out" method works without causing any harm to the bees in a way that keeps the colony alive, sustainable and viable.

Overview
During the course you will gain knowledge and understanding around the following topics:
- Identify the main casts of the West European honey bee
- Use insecticides against beneficial pollinator species
- Carry out a structural site survey
- Understand the "trap-out" method
- Look after bees and hive safely
- Ensure the correct use of PPE
- Use the hand and power tools needed to install the "trap-out" equipment
- Remove of bees and the equipment safely
- Prevent future swarms recolonising the property
- Package the bees and hive ready for the safe return.
Upon completion of the programme you will:
- Know why traditional pest management techniques used against beneficial insects such as bees may lead to prosecution by the HSE as a wildlife crime and the laws that the regulators apply when they do prosecute
- Know that the loss of a bee colony by using any substance or method intended as an insecticide may also lead to prosecution by the HSE as a wildlife crime
- Know how to complete a structural survey of the building and surrounding site/area in order to safely attempt a successful live colony removal of honey bees
- Know how to liaise with the client so as to provide technical advice with regards to the "trap out" process for removing bees from their property
- Know how to work safely to perform a successful Trap Out when working in close proximity to stinging insects
- Know how the "trap out" process works in practice and what circumstances will cause the process to fail
- Know how to care for the colony of bees sent to you by courier, both pre and post-"trap out"
- Know how to install and remove the "trap out" equipment safely using hand and power tools
- Know how to keep the colony alive and viable for return
- Know the administrative process involved in live removals, the industry codes of practice, refresher training and terms and conditions that must be followed as a minimum to retain that level of approval
- Know how to cost out the "trap out" process workflow to ensure a desired level of profitability
- Know how the approval and referral process works in practice.

Classroom programme
This is a one day, classroom-based course.
9 am start, 5 pm finish.
Minimum Age Statement
Young persons under the age of 18 years are often exposed to risks to their health and safety when using work equipment as a consequence of their immaturity, lack of experience of absence awareness of existing or potential risks. Therefore, such young people should not be allowed to operate equipment without supervision unless they have the necessary competence and maturity, as well as having successfully completed appropriate training (The Health and Safety (Young Persons) regulation 1997).

Assessments

Assessment will be a through a written multiple choice test at the end of the course.
Upon successful completion of the programme, trainees will be issued with a certificate of competence and Tree Bee Society of Great Britain approval to remove live bees.
