Pest Control Officer - Southampton City Council - Central Depot, Southampton

Job Overview

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic pest control professional to join the in-house Pest Control and Specialist Cleansing Team which is responsible for providing a service across the city. Your initial focus will be to deliver pest control and specialist cleansing services to our Housing department.

Description

You will work closely with Housing Officers and tenants to treat/clear verminous and filthy premises whilst fostering responsible behaviour and active involvement with the local environment to secure and sustain a safer and cleaner City for residents.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working with Housing Services to provide a professional and efficient pest control and specialist cleansing service,
  • Working with tenants to ensure that treatments can be undertaken and cleansing carried out in a timely fashion, with minimal disturbance to the residents.
  • Working with the Team Leader to monitor the effectiveness of treatments and identify trends in pests to best programme future works.
  • Working with the Team Leader to identify new clients and wherever possible to secure additional resources.
  • Undertake the cleansing of filthy and verminous premises and clearance of any bodily fluids and used syringes if required to do so
  • Managing a range of resources including vehicles, tools, chemicals and handling sensitive information.

To be successful in the role you will have a Royal Society of Public Health Level 2 Certificate in Pest Management, or equivalent or be able to demonstrate the ability and commitment to work to this level and undertake an appropriate relevant qualification within your probation period.

You will require excellent communication skills and have a good level of IT literacy. You will also need to demonstrate your ability to manage and maintain a busy work schedule, following a programme of works and undertaking treatments in a timely manner. Communicating timescales, start dates and delays with a range of stakeholders, including Housing Officers, Tenants and Councillors.

This is a 37 hour per week, permanent contract which falls within Grade 6 of Southampton City Council’s pay scales. This will equate to an annual salary of £21,769 - £23,836. A standby rota is in place for which you will received £108.73 on the weeks that you are on duty.

You will be based at the Central Depot, Granville Street, Southampton, which has excellent transport links to all of the surrounding area of Hampshire and beyond. Vehicles are provided for working around the city so you will require a full driving licence.

You will be a member of the City Services Division who provide a range of services including Waste collection, Fleet Transport, Parks and Street Cleansing and Commercial Services (such as Tree Surgery, Pest Control and Allotments).
