Trainee Pest Control Technician PEST UK

Location: South London

Salary: £40,000 to £60,000

Job Overview

Earnings will vary from year-to-year.

Description

Please read ALL the details below before applying for this position. You will need to supply your own van from Day 1 as a trainee. The high earnings once you are fully qualified provide compensation for this (£40,000 - £60,000 a year). This is not a 'normal' pest control operator position.

PEST UK pay trainees £100/day while they are doing on-the-job training which involves shadowing one of our technicians or attending BPCA training courses. PEST UK pay for the BPCA training courses for our trainees. We also arrange for you to be CRB checked.

On-the-job training usually takes 3 to 4 weeks and includes undertaking some jobs alone, for which the trainee gets paid 50% of the fee for the job. Once your training is complete we help you set up a limited company (see below).

Trainees can start working on their own and earning 50% of the fee for the job before they pass the BPCA qualification. We encourage trainees to get the qualification as soon as possible.

Each technician must have a Berlingo-sized van from Day 1. If you don’t have a van you will need to arrange this yourself.

How We Work

PEST UK have been providing fast, reliable pest control services in domestic and commercial situations for over 35-years. We are a member of the BPCA and have been assessed to ensure we meet their strict membership criteria. Our business model is unique and our technicians are extremely well paid and self-motivated.

  • PEST UK provide marketing support and excellent lead generation to supply technicians with appointments for ‘one-off’ jobs and/or pest control contracts. The technicians take 50% of the fee. If a technician brings in their ‘own’ work then they take 75% of the fee. The rate is standard for each job completed.
  • Each Pest Control Technician runs their own ‘limited company’. This means the technician pays less tax by claiming for protective clothing, telephone bills, gas, electric bills etc, they are better paid and generally have more flexibility and spare time when it is needed. The model is similar to a franchise but better paid, with job security and a regular income without upfront costs.

Sharing Success

PEST UK’s success as a company is aligned with the success of our technicians and continued customer satisfaction. Our business model presents technicians with the opportunity to earn a significant return and share in its success. This is why we pay our Pest Control Technicians the way we do. One of our technicians grossed over £102k for the period February 2020 to March 2021.

Job Security

PEST UK was established in 1985 and we now have a team of over 20 Pest Control Technicians. Some of our technicians have been with us for over 25 years. During economic downturns, income may drop but we have not had to reduce the number of technicians.

Money

PEST UK’s technicians are probably the highest paid in the country. Earnings will vary from year-to-year.

General

Treatments involve rodent, insect and some mammal pests and proofing. The bulk of the work is domestic treatments and contract work. The actual way the treatments are carried out will not be described in detail here but our technicians must follow the BPCA Codes of Best Practice to deliver a professional, effective service. This includes wearing protective clothing and strictly adhering to all other safety measures etc. Technicians are allocated contracts which are serviced at set intervals. These contracts supply regular work and income throughout the year.

As a member of the BPCA, we ensure that we meet their strict membership criteria. Our team of professionally trained and qualified technicians follow the BPCA Codes of Best Practice to deliver a professional, effective service.

Hours of Operation

PEST UK’s technicians operate from 8:00am to 6:30pm in the Winter and 8:00am to 7:00pm in the Summer, Monday to Friday (you are not expected to work all these hours). We also operate Weekends and Bank Holidays; these days are shared out between the technicians. Flexibility is a key factor and there is plenty of scope for time off, except during the busier months. As we are a small team it can be difficult to have time off should another technician be off. This job is much better paid than most PCOs and for most of the year our technicians work fewer hours and have a great deal of independence within the PEST UK guidelines; in return we expect loyalty and honesty.

You may talk to our current technicians to get their opinions; contact details can be obtained at the interview.
