Enhanced surveillance is now underway in Dover, following confirmation of an Asian hornet sighting.

A photo, taken by a member of the public this week, was sent to the National Bee Unit (NBU) which later confirmed the identification.

Department for Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra) has not yet confirmed the sighting on its website, but updates can be found here.

NBU have encouraged members of the public, beekeepers and professional pest managers to remain vigilant for the signs of Asian hornets, particularly near ivy in full flower, which is attractive to the species.

Please report sightings of Vespa velutina using the ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ app for iPhone and Android, or the online reporting form.
