No, we don’t just take an Ad out in the Yellow Pages now, you have to do more to get your logo, and more importantly your ‘value proposition’ seen.

Recognise your position

We’ll kick off with a clear line on what marketing is and what it isn’t. We’ll also look at what good marketing looks like. N.B. It’s not always the biggest or the noisiest, but the companies who recognise what they are good at, and what they are not… and deliver maximum income from minimum outlay.

Case studies are always the best way to illustrate ‘what good looks like’ in terms of marketing practice. So, some examples from associated industries will, I hope, give you food for thought. We’ll head into the audience (if there is time) to see what people see as their current position, and why.

Tools for the job

Marketing impact is most notable in branding and communications; the visual representations and messages distributed from your company. It’s important you know what is out there, so we’ll take some time to review some of the tools across both online and offline formats. I want you to be sure you’re giving your sales colleagues or the sales ‘you’, enough ammunition to go out there and ‘bring home the bacon’.

This will also be a useful point to share the new BPCA web profile pages, and how member companies, can use them to your advantage for domestic and commercial. This will be the biggest shake up of the find a pest controller tool the Association has ever known, stay tuned.

Making time and saving time

Running a small business means you are everything. You are the technician, the HR representative, the surveyor and also, when you get chance, now the Marketing superstar. Marketing and Communications does not have to be a burden so ensuring a scalable solution is paramount.

Let’s look at how a small commitment, now and again, can allow you to get closer to your customers to make a big impact on that bottom line. Again, examples from the floor and other industries to show you what is possible, and frankly what is not.

Please note, this talk isn’t about you working harder. It’s about working smarter. Right?

About me

I have experience in leading the marketing function for membership, charitable and social enterprise organisations in the Construction, Sport and Leisure sectors, and most recently in the Higher Education sector. I have also run my own small company so can empathise with some of the challenges faced by smaller businesses. I joined BPCA in July 2016 and my role includes strategic marketing planning, member engagement strategy, brand strategy, digital marketing and communications planning.

I enjoy most sporting activities, particularly cycling and football. Unfortunately (for me), I am a big Aston Villa fan, and get to games when I’m not being chased around my garden by my young family.

Professional pest control together. PPC Live is the sister show to PestEx, and is BPCA's exhibition and conference designed for UK pest control technicians, managers and company owners. This event will be held on Wednesday 14 March 2018 at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, Worcestershire.
