Global Public Health and Food Safety Summit announced in Florida

PRESS RELEASE

The programme for the Global Public Health and Food Safety Summit has been designed to address food safety from a global perspective. Leading researchers and practitioners from across the world will discuss and review the latest key aspects of delivering healthy and safe food.

Amongst this international line up of speakers is Natalie Bungay, technical and compliance manager from the British Pest Control Association. Accompanied by Alfie Treleven, operations director of Tacoma-based Sprague Pest Solutions, they will discuss the industry’s efforts to advance environmental sustainability.

The Global Food Summit runs over the three days of 4-6 June, 2024 and will be held at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami, Florida, USA. The third day, 6 June, is also World Pest Day, to be hosted by the Global Pest Management Coalition.

The event is being jointly organised by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) from the USA, the Confederation of European Pest Management Associations (CEPA) from Europe and Asia and Oceania, and the Federation of Asian and Oceania Pest Managers Associations (FAOPMA).

After the opening remarks and welcome, the event begins with a keynote panel discussion led by Taro Kanazawa, president of FAOPMA, who is joined by a formidable array of leaders from the world’s largest international pest control companies. These include Andy Ransom, chief executive of Rentokil Initial, accompanied by Nicolas Granucci, president of global pest for Ecolab Inc. Completing this round-up of global players is Matt Turek, division president of Orkin International and Hakan Kjelberg, technical manager for the Anticimex group international.

From the world of research, Dr Faith Oi from the University of Florida will debate how global climate change will affect public health, property, and food. Professor Coby Schal from North Carolina State University will review the latest research linking pest-associated bio-contaminants to human health impacts.

During the three days, further presentations will cover the latest advances and best practice in public health and food safety. Topics to be covered include the use of remote sensing equipment, rat monitoring in urban environments and surveillance programmes in vector-borne disease management.

From a more practical perspective, the challenges and client expectations facing pest management professionals servicing the food industry will be covered, as are new technologies, food safety audits and regulations.
