UPDATED: Two pest controllers die in Norfolk

A deeply tragic incident at Banham Poultry in Norfolk has resulted in two pest controllers losing their lives.

After conducting initial assessments at the site, a police spokesman said:

“Investigating teams are now exploring what they believe to have been a refrigeration gas leak near to where the men were working as a line of enquiry.”

The pair found dead were working on the site for a pest control company.

The men have now been named as Neil Moon, 49, and Jon Collins, 34.

They worked for BPCA member company Ecolab. A JustGiving page has been set up in memory of Jon and Neil.

Ian Andrew, Chief Executive of BPCA said:

"The BPCA community is devastated by this news. Our thoughts are with the families, colleagues and all those affected at this difficult time.

“Our team is on hand to offer support and to co-operate with all relevant authorities as they make their investigations.”

The men were associates working for BPCA member company Ecolab, which has pledged to investigate the incident.

A spokesman for the company said.

“Today we learned that two associates working for Ecolab's Pest Elimination division were involved in a fatal incident at a customer site in south-eastern England.

“The police and emergency services are in attendance and an investigation is underway into the cause of the two fatalities.

“We are doing all we can to understand the situation and to respond to the needs of our team. Our thoughts are with their families at what is a difficult time.”

The factory is now in a state of lock-down and local train services have been stopped following reports of a suspected chemical spill at the site.

Emergency services continue to make the area safe, working with the Environmental protection specialist unit.
