BPCA launches new online classroom with resistance training

BPCA is delivering specialist pest control training via its new virtual classroom. Understanding Genetic Resistance in Pests will run first in May, then June at a special introductory discount rate.

With Covid-19 putting an end to in-person training programmes for the time being, BPCA has been developing an online classroom setting.

Understanding genetic resistance

Unlike webinars, virtual classrooms mix a live speaker with interactions from learning on a far smaller scale. Strictly limited to 15 learners, you'll be able to ask questions, take polls and talk to other learners.

Understanding Genetic Resistance in Pests

The first one-day course taking place in the BPCA online classroom is all about resistance. It'll include modules on what resistance is, where it comes from and how to combat it as part of your pest control programme.

You'll cover resistance pest management in rats, mice and insect pests.

These sessions are delivered by Alex Wade, Technical Manager at PelGar's. Alex has a scientific background, a detailed understanding of biology and animal behaviour and is a mine of information when it comes to pest control.

Alex has been managing PelGars efficacy testing laboratory, responsible for culturing insect populations and testing insecticides– and has a fantastic knowledge of active ingredients and their mode of action.

New way to learn

BPCA's Training Pathway is always expanding and adapting to the needs of pest control professionals.

Karen Dawes, BPCA Training Manager, said:

"We've been thinking about delivering more live training online for a long time now.

"With the success of BPCA's free webinars, we learned a lot about delivering online content.

"Our virtual classroom is different from a webinar. You get one specific subject delivered over a whole day in a far more intimate setting".

She continued:

"Session sizes are strictly limited. You'll be able to as questions, take part in exercises and respond directly to your tutor.

"We're excited about Alex teaching our first online classroom course. He's fantastically knowledgeable about pesticide modes of action and the biology of pest management.

"If you saw his talk at PPC Live, you'll know he can take a difficult subject and provide practical guidance for pest technicians".
