The Level 3 food safety course develops your knowledge gained on the Level 2 food safety course. For anyone working with food, safety is paramount.

Overview

During this course you will consider the importance of food safety principles and practice, identify problem areas and decide how to recommend solutions, you will be able to take responsibility for food safety monitoring procedures, identify hazards to food safety, take appropriate action and contribute to improvements in food safety practice.

During the Level 3 Award in Food Safety programme, you will learn to:

1. Summarise the importance of food safety management procedures
2. Explain employers' and employees' food safety legislation responsibilities
3. Explain how food safety legislation is enforced
4. Outline food safety audit requirements
5. Explain the importance of high personal hygiene standards
6. Explain cleaning and disinfection procedures
7. Explain cross contamination procedures
8. Describe waste disposal procedures
9. Describe pest control procedures
10. Describe microbial, chemical, physical and allergenic hazards
11. Describe HACCP
12. Explain temperature control requirements
13. Explain traceability
14. Explain staff induction and training requirements
15. Explain the importance of monitoring and reporting on food safety

This programme is suitable for Pest Technicians, Specialists, anyone interested in becoming a Technical Inspector or a Field Biologist and anyone who works around food.

This qualification is awarded by HABC.

It's recommended that you hold a current Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety. You will be expected to have food safety knowledge to Level 2 standard.

Classroom Delivery

Classroom programme

This is a three-day, classroom-based programme with a 2-hour multiple choice exam at the end of the programme.

9.00 am for coffee, 9.30 am start, 4.30 pm finish. 

It's recommended that you hold a current Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety. You will be expected to have food safety knowledge to Level 2 standard.

Assessments

At the end of the course, you will take the Multichoice exam paper. This course is delivered over three days, and assessment is by a 120-minute examination of 60 multiple-choice questions.

When you study this course you will be asked to select one of three Level 3 Food Safety exams to take at the end of the course. You can choose to achieve a HABC Level 3 Award in Food Manufacturing, Retail or Catering.
